Please bring in pink lids or circles from the following products:  Yoplait, Motts, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Nature Valley, Gardettos, Green Giant, Betty Crocker, Chex Mix, Bugles, Cheerios, Pillsbury, Old El Paso, Hamburger Helper, Fruit Gushers, Total, Fiber One, Oceanspray, and Fruit Roll-Ups.  We are having a competition between classes.  Each circle that is brought in during the month of October means 10 cents donated to the Komen foundation.  If every student K-8 brings in 4, we will have $100 donation in memory of Mrs. Blackburn's mom.  You just buy products that you normally buy, and cut out the pink circles.  No extra cost to you, but a donation to a great cause---breast cancer research!  Let's all do our part to support this great cause.

Upcoming events:
Miracle Worker Performances will be October 15 and 16 at 1:15 PM in the auditorium.  Some students will be performing both days, and some will be performing on one of the days--depending on which scene they are in.  We are performing 5 scenes from The Miracle Worker.  We will be inviting grades 3 and up to attend.  Parents are also invited to attend.

To Kill a Mockingbird-Our next class novel will be To Kill a Mockingbird.  In an effort to best prepare for high school we will be learning a skill called annotating.  This works best if each student has his/her own copy of the book that he/she can write in.  They may also choose to use 4 colors of highlighters.  You may wish to purchase this book soon, as they will need it by Monday, Oct. 17.  If students do not bring their own copies, they will borrow one from the school library.  However, they will have to write on post-it notes instead of writing in the book, since it is not their own copy.  I think they will find it beneficial to have their own copy to mark in and take notes.   They are not allowed to use a copy of the book that was previously used (last year) by one of my students.  They will need a CLEAN copy that has not already been marked.  I will check for this on Oct. 17.  Annotating is a skill that they will definitely need in high school.  While it is challenging, it is worth our time and effort to work on this in 8th grade.
