Operation Christmas Child 2015---A note was sent home in the family envelope.  We will be collecting items for shoeboxes to send to less fortunate children in other countries.  The faith families will meet to pack their boxes the week of Nov. 16.  Students should bring their assigned items by Fri. Nov. 13.  Each faith family will pack at least 2 boxes.  The boxes will be provided and student council will pay for shipping.  We are asking that each child bring in two items.  All 6th graders should bring in 2 small toys.  The age is specific to your child's faith family and was listed on the note in the family envelope.  Toys should be small and fit in a shoebox.  Suggestions are:  balls, yoyos, cars, jacks)  Please no war related items such as toy knives, guns, or military figures.  If your child is unsure of the age group and gender for their box, please have them check the list in the classroom.  Thank you for helping us share compassion in action by providing these small gifts of love to those less fortunate around the globe.

After we read Anne Frank, we will move on to our reading of To Kill a Mockingbird.  Because we annotate as we read, it is much easier if students have their own copies of the book.  Students should have their copies by Tuesday, November 10.  It should be an unmarked copy (not previously annotated by another student).  The book can be purchased at Barnes and Noble or Target. You can also purchase the book online.  You may also be able to purchase a used unmarked copy on amazon.com.  If students are not able to purchase their own copy, they will be allowed to check out a copy from the library; however , they will then have to do all annotating on post-it notes.  It is much easier and effective when they can write and highlight in their own books.
