--Stockings--The 6th and 7th graders will be providing filled Christmas stockings for the children of a needy family in our community. The family has 4 children. The 6th grade will "adopt" the 2 younger children, and the 7th will "adopt" the 2 older children. We are asking each 6th grader to please bring in items to fill the stockings for a 5 year old boy and an 11 year old girl. The boys in our class should bring in an item for the boy's stocking. That should give us 16 items. The girls in our class should each bring in 2 items for the girl's stocking. We are asking for 2 items from the girls since we only have 9 girls. Please keep in mind that all items should be small so that they can fit in the stockings. Please have these items at school by Friday, December 11.
Isaiah project: This project was establish in memory of Mrs. Romero's grandson. Mrs. Romero works in our preschool, so we would like to support her and this project. Each week the project provides dinner and activities for underprivileged youth. They are in need of art supplies for ages 11-14 (junior high age). This is optional, but anything you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Please send these items in by Friday, December 11. At this time of giving, we hope you will consider helping in this way. There is such a need right in our own community. God loves a cheerful giver!

After we read Anne Frank, we will move on to our reading of To Kill a Mockingbird. We will be starting this after Thanksgiving Break. Please bring your books to school before break, so that you don't forget them on the Monday we return to school. Because we annotate as we read, it is much easier if students have their own copies of the book. It should be an unmarked copy (not previously annotated by another student). The book can be purchased at Barnes and Noble or Target. You can also purchase the book online. You may also be able to purchase a used unmarked copy on amazon.com. If students are not able to purchase their own copy, they will be allowed to check out a copy from the library; however , they will then have to do all annotating on post-it notes. It is much easier and effective when they can write and highlight in their own books.
