Update for the week of October 1-5

Camp:  Calvin Crest has a website at Calvincrest.com.  You can click on Outdoor School and food menu to see what they will be serving.  I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

St. Vincent de Paul lunches:  This is the junior high's week to provide the lunches.  It counts as a religion assignment.  Please remember to provide a sack lunch for the hungry this Friday, October 5.

______________________________________________________
Youth Group:  The junior high parish youth group meets on Monday nights 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.  I am trying to encourage the 6th graders to check it out and see what it has to offer.  Sixth graders who attend 3 sessions and get 3 signatures from Mary (the youth group coordinator) will be able to turn in their signature page instead of doing a Sunday reading Bible search.  Once they try it, I think they will enjoy it.   Please encourage your 6th grader to attend.....at least once.

Only one more week until camp!  Thank you so much to everyone for turning in your camp forms on time.  I really appreciate it!

Thursday, October 4 is the Feast of St. Francis.  Our class is working with the kindergarten to plan this Mass.  All are invited to attend, and of course bring their animals to be blessed.  Parents can bring pets at 1:00.  There will be a designated section for parents and pets to sit.  Immediately following Mass, students will be able to bring their pets up to Fr. Piro for a blessing.  Please help us celebrate this important tradition in our faith.

Update Already!

I forgot to mention on my original post.....It was necessary for me to be gone 2 days last week due to a medical issue with my mom.  I apologize that I have gotten a bit behind in grading, and may not have grades updated this weekend as usual.  I will do my best to get caught up as soon as possible.  Thank you so much for your support and prayers for my mom.  They are much appreciated.  She is feeling much better, so the prayers must be working.

sincere thanks,
Mrs. Lorenzi
September 17-21

Because official school progress reports were sent out on Friday, September 14, I will not be sending out my usual weekly progress reports on Monday Sept. 17. These official progress reports do affect sports eligibility.

Upcoming October Mass: As is our tradition, our school will be celebrating the Blessing of the Animals Mass on the Feast of St. Francis on October 4. Students will be allowed to have their pets brought to the Mass. Our class, along with our kindergarten buddies will be in charge of planning this special Mass. I would like to have a poster of pet pictures for the offertory. If you have pictures of your pets that you would like included, please send them in by Friday, September 21. The pictures can be copied and returned to you. Also, I am in need of a parent volunteer who would like to make this poster for our class. What a great way to earn volunteer hours!

This week will be ITBS.  Parents please make sure your child is well rested and eats breakfast each morning.  It helps them to stay focused for testing.  Also, due to testing I will not be giving homework this week.  Book worksheets will be due on Sept. 21.  They have been given class time.  It may need to be finished up at home, or during some free time this week.  We will not be taking the originally planned book test due to ITBS this week.  Instead, this book worksheet will count as their test grade in reading.  We will test each morning until 11:35.  Following testing, we will have in class activities/ lessons.  Many thanks to Mrs. d'Escoto for organizing our healthy snacks for testing week.  Also many thanks to Mrs. Arandia, Mrs. Felsinger, Mrs. Little, Dr. Moran, Mrs. Capulong, Mrs. Scheuerman, and Mrs. Wright for providing the snacks.  Also, thank you to Mrs. Hobbs for taking on all the organization for our room parents.  I apologize if I have overlooked anyone who has helped; it is not intentional.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

** These snacks are of course optional for your child.  If your child would prefer they can bring their own snack as usual.  If they have food allergies, it might be a good idea to have their own snack on hand.

Students should be working on their magazines.  These are due on September 18.   They can be turned in early by Sept. 14 for extra credit.  They have their articles which need to be typed.  Although many parents help with typing, I encourage you to have your child do as much of the typing as possible.  Keep in mind that in junior high and beyond, typing will be essential.  They will only improve with practice.  It might be a good idea to have them type one article each day, since they have several days before it is due.
